Rectangular Metal Weavings - Tightly Woven Copper

Wavy Weavings (below) are made by weaving together non-uniformly cuts strips of copper. The weavings are then heat-colored with the oxy-acetylene torch to create a multiplicity of rhomboids with beautiful blues, purples, reds, browns and yellows. The colors appear to have an iridescent quality, reminiscent of abalone shell. I am making Wavy Weavings in numerous sizes: 12" x 36", 18"x24",  24"x36", 36"x48" and 36"x60". If you need a custom size, I can do it for you.

All designs can be installed vertically or horizontally. I can also do these with security hangers welded on.

The largest I have made is a 48" x 90" undulated wavy weaving. It is installed at the Holiday Inn-Capitol in Washington DC. The smallest is 8" x 12"

Please note that all the patinas are somewhat difficult to control but can be biased, to one color or another. For example, I can do a light roast, medium roast and dark roast. The two below represent a medium roast and a dark roast.

All weavings have a rigid metal back. They are very easy to install, even for non-carpenter types. Installations usually take about ten minutes - a little longer if ladders are involved

Rhomboids are unusual and fun. There are quite a few ways to install them. Its a unique shape and makes a strong statement on the wall.

The flame colors are done after the weaving and welding and folding. The salt-fire patinas are done first, immediately after the brass is melted on.

I rarely do tightly woven metal weavings with straight strips. I guess I've seen too many other people do this kind of weaving.

I particularly like wavy weavings because the strips represent to me how water flows. In fact, I think of these pieces as being visual virtual  waterfalls.
